This visit followed her demand for the ban to be lifted and quotas to be eliminated.
Ms. Badenoch stated that the rush to implement these changes is having a “disastrous effect” on the UK automotive industry.
The 2030 ban was initially introduced before being postponed by five years.
Labour then reverted the ban back to 2030.
Last week, The Sun reported that Britain intends to continue with the prohibition on new petrol and diesel vehicles.
The government has reiterated its commitment to phasing out all new non-zero emission car and van sales by 2035, indicating that there is “no change” in policy.
Additionally, plans to phase out combustion engines by the middle of the next decade are under reconsideration following significant lobbying from various stakeholders.
Manfred Weber, leader of the largest group in the European Parliament, recently stated: “The end of combustion engines is history.”
He added: “This is good news for the automotive industry and millions of workers.”
Former automotive chief Dr. Andy Palmer cautioned that the UK may face challenges if it attempts to go solo due to the close ties of its car market with Europe.
