The Kebbi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Forum has criticized the Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for its remarks regarding the ongoing rescue operation for 25 female students abducted from Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in the Talata-Mafara Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
In a statement released in Birnin Kebbi by its Chairman, Comrade Nasiru Maga, the group accused the Zamfara PDP of trying to politicize a matter of national security. The forum characterized the opposition's comments regarding the deployment of the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, to oversee the rescue operation as "unpatriotic and insensitive."
“While families are still praying for the safe return of the abducted girls, it is disheartening that the Zamfara PDP is issuing press statements to undermine the rescue efforts merely due to political rivalry,” the statement indicated.
The forum claimed that the criticism was intended to distract security agencies and weaken federal intervention in the rescue mission. It also urged the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, and the Police to investigate what it called “the opposition’s deliberate attempts to politicize insecurity.”
The group further praised President Bola Tinubu for his swift response to the situation and his commitment to prioritizing the safety of students. It expressed confidence in Matawalle’s capability to lead the operation effectively.
“We believe that the minister, who has experience managing security challenges in the North-West, will ensure the safe rescue of the kidnapped students,” the statement concluded.
The Kebbi APC Youth Forum urged political leaders to refrain from making statements that could demoralize troops or jeopardize security efforts while the rescue operation is in progress.
