JOAO PALHINHA has responded to Jamie Carragher’s harsh criticism, telling the Sky pundit: "You should have watched me more this season."

Carragher criticized Tottenham midfielder Palhinha’s “confidence and ability” to make forward passes after Spurs suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss at home earlier this month.

The international player Palhinha, 31, stated: “I saw it because some people sent it to me."

“What can I say about this? I don’t care what the pundits say."

“If he speaks negatively about Ronaldo, he can do the same with anyone."

“He should have watched more of my games at Tottenham. I believe I am having an excellent season, and what he says about me doesn’t bother me at all.”

Carragher has not hesitated to criticize Palhinha’s international teammate during his second spell at Manchester United in previous seasons.

Palhinha, currently on loan, scored in the subsequent match after Carragher’s remarks against FC Copenhagen, bringing his season total to four goals.

As the derby against Arsenal approaches this Sunday afternoon, he added: “Some people need to talk about others to get airtime."
