Demola Olarenwaju, the Senior Political Assistant to a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has revealed the reasons behind the former Vice President's opposition to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

Olarenwaju stated that Jonathan violated a gentleman's agreement with Atiku, which led the former Vice President to take a stand against him in 2015.

He made these comments while answering questions during an X Space event titled “APC Must Go” on Saturday night.

According to Olarenwaju: “Most of the responses I’ll provide tonight are not solely based on my discussions with Atiku; they are also driven by my aspiration for a better Nigeria.

“Ultimately, if Nigeria improves, my life as a Nigerian becomes better and more manageable.

“At that time, I found myself aligned with Atiku, whereas in 2015, I was on the side of Goodluck Jonathan.

“As Avril mentioned, their interests are their own. Atiku's political interests at that moment did not align with those of Goodluck Jonathan, which explains why he felt compelled to oppose Jonathan back then.

“Was that in my best interest as a Nigerian? I don’t believe so. Did he have the right to oppose Jonathan? Absolutely, because Jonathan breached a gentleman's agreement.

“I mention this not to stir controversy but to explain my perspective on politicians and the political landscape. I evaluate it through the lens of my own interests: will this person improve my life? Where are my interests best represented?”
