THE MOTHER of the arsonist jailed for targeting Sir Keir Starmer broke down in tears when she discovered the reason behind his arrest.

Nadiia Lavrynovych, 41, said she is baffled why her “good, decent” son linked to the PM.

At the family home in Pniv, , she told The Sun on Sunday: “Like every Ukrainian he has been so grateful for your (Britain’s) support.

“When I realised it involved the , I didn’t want to live anymore.”

Lavrynovych admitted arson but claimed he had been threatened online.

His mother said he was tricked into it by .

But the jury at the Old Bailey heard he had been offered £3,000 in to carry out the attacks on a Toyota Rav4 previously owned by the PM and two properties linked to him, although he was never paid the money.

The construction worker and part-time model was convicted and was jailed for seven years on Friday at the Old Bailey.

His mother remained baffled how her “good, decent” son could be persuaded to carry out such attacks, especially given his anti-Russian stance.

She said that he preferred to live in the UK to Ukraine as he had more prospects.
