The Kebbi State Government has refuted a viral claim suggesting the presence of a covert airstrip in Argungu, allegedly used for the smuggling of cocaine into the nation.

During a joint press conference with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Cabinet Office in Birnin Kebbi, the state Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, labeled the report as “false, unfounded, and malicious.”

Officials stated that the story was fabricated using artificial intelligence (AI) technology in an attempt to mislead the public and damage the reputation of the Kebbi State populace.

“The allegation is entirely untrue. There is no airstrip in Argungu or anywhere in Kebbi being utilized for illegal drug activities,” Birnin Kebbi declared.

“It is regrettable that some individuals are misusing AI tools to propagate misinformation and create unwarranted anxiety.”

The NDLEA Commander in Kebbi, Abdullahi Sokoto, added that the agency would not tolerate any efforts to undermine its credibility or that of the state. He urged residents to remain vigilant and verify information before disseminating it.

“The NDLEA is dedicated to combating drug abuse and trafficking in all its forms, but such false accusations only serve to distract from the important work we are undertaking,” he stated.

Both the government and the NDLEA assured that appropriate actions would be taken against individuals or groups responsible for spreading false information in the state.
