The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has praised the designation of Nigeria as a 'Country of Particular Concern' by the United States government.

In response to this development, IPOB spokesman Emma Powerful stated on Sunday that a Canadian court had previously classified Nigeria's major political parties—the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—as terrorist organizations.

Expressing gratitude to US President Donald Trump for this decision, IPOB described the designation of Nigeria as a country of particular concern as a significant moral victory for justice, truth, and the value of human life.

In the same statement, the group urged the US government to investigate the ongoing ethno-religious killings in Nigeria, particularly in the South-East region.

The statement read, “The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under the capable leadership of our supreme leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, warmly welcomes the recent designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern by the United States government.

“This development follows the landmark decision by a Canadian court that designated the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as organizations that enable terrorism.

“The IPOB family extends heartfelt thanks to President Donald J. Trump, Senator Ted Cruz, and all patriotic Biafrans and friends of Biafra in the United States who have tirelessly advocated for this noble cause. Their courageous efforts have drawn global attention to the horrors of religious persecution, state-sponsored violence, and sectarian killings that have long afflicted Nigeria, particularly targeting Christian and Igbo communities.

“This acknowledgment is not just symbolic; it signifies a moral victory for justice, truth, and the sanctity of human life. By highlighting the Nigerian state's complicity in ethnic and religious violence, the international community has helped save countless lives that would otherwise have been lost to orchestrated insecurity and genocidal attacks.

“However, IPOB asserts that the efforts of the US government and the broader international community are far from finished. There is an urgent need for an independent international inquiry into the underlying causes of the ongoing ethno-religious killings and insecurity in Igboland. Such an investigation is crucial to identify the perpetrators, financiers, and political supporters behind these horrific acts and to ensure justice is served in accordance with international human rights law.

“We honor the unwavering courage and resilience of all Biafrans worldwide, particularly the remarkable advocacy of American Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID), Ambassadors for Self-Determination, and Rising Sun, along with other advocates of freedom globally who continue to speak out against tyranny, impunity, and the ongoing genocide against our people and Christian communities in Northern Nigeria. History will remember your bravery. Relief will finally come to the long-suffering peoples of the Middle Belt region as a result of this designation.
