Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has urged President Bola Tinubu to promptly remove the nation’s security chiefs in light of the ongoing killings of Nigerians throughout the country.

Frank made this appeal in a statement on Sunday, responding to the recent deaths of soldiers in Borno State, attributed to suspected Boko Haram insurgents.

He voiced his alarm over the escalating levels of insecurity, banditry, and kidnappings, labeling the situation a national tragedy that demands immediate action from the executive branch.

According to Frank, Nigerians are being killed “like chickens” every day across the North, South, East, and West, indicating a total failure of the country’s security framework under the current administration.

“Our soldiers and policemen are perishing in great numbers due to inadequate funding and insufficient equipment. Despite significant budget allocations for the security sector, these funds do not reach the personnel on the front lines, nor are they utilized to acquire the necessary equipment to address insecurity,” the statement noted.

He pointed out that the ongoing killings have drawn international attention, commending former US President Donald Trump and Senator Ted Cruz for their advocacy on behalf of Nigerians, particularly their condemnation of the relentless killing of Nigerians in various regions.

Frank urged Tinubu to consider the advice of Trump and other leaders from the United States regarding insecurity.

“We appreciate President Donald Trump for his concern and moral courage in addressing the killings of Nigerians. We also commend Senator Ted Cruz for voicing opposition to these injustices. Their efforts have helped to break the silence among our political leaders, especially those in the ruling party,” the statement continued.

“Nigeria has always enjoyed a positive relationship with the United States. We will not permit any government or individuals to undermine that friendship. As Nigerians, we are dedicated to enhancing our relationship with the U.S. in the interest of peace, democracy, and global security,” he stated.

He criticized the Nigerian Senate for their condemnation of Ted Cruz's remarks regarding the killings of innocent Nigerians, calling them a “disgrace and disappointment.”

“If the Senate and, by extension, the National Assembly had consistently and diligently fulfilled their constitutional responsibility of oversight and representation in curbing executive excesses, such as the ongoing detention of Nnamdi Kanu and ensuring that security chiefs take action to protect the lives and property of Nigerians, Senator Ted Cruz would not have singled out Nigeria as a prime example of unwarranted killings and the intimidation of innocent citizens by violent gangs.

“Notice how they took their time to respond to Senator Ted Cruz’s comments, while they have failed over the years to advocate for justice by calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu or to ensure through their oversight powers that the security chiefs uphold their duty to safeguard vulnerable Nigerians from horrific attacks and murders,” he concluded.
