A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Jibrin Okutepa, stated that the appointment of Professor Joash Amupitan as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is the finest decision President Bola Tinubu has made.

Okutepa shared this view during an interview on ‘Sunday Politics,’ a program aired on Channels Television.

He emphasized that Professor Amupitan has significant credibility and integrity to lead the electoral body following the conclusion of Professor Mahmood Yakubu’s tenure.

He urged the new INEC chair to resist corruption and to work towards restoring Nigerians’ confidence in the electoral commission.

The senior lawyer also clarified that Professor Amupitan was not part of President Tinubu's legal team during the 2023 election petition tribunal.

“Professor Amupitan’s nomination as INEC Chair is an excellent choice, considering his extensive knowledge in evidence, electoral law, and administrative skills.

“Indeed, I can confidently say that it’s the best appointment President Tinubu has ever made,” Okutepa remarked.
