Former Manchester United player, Teddy Sheringham, has voiced his disappointment regarding Chelsea’s choice to permit Nicolas Jackson to leave the club.

He mentioned that the west London team ‘immediately regretted’ what he referred to as a ‘very strange’ transfer decision made by the Blues during the summer.

Chelsea invested over £300 million on new signings while also generating a similar amount through player sales.

The Blues acquired players such as Joao Pedro, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jorrel Hato, while selling Noni Madueke, Christopher Nkunku, and Nicolas Jackson, among others.

Despite these changes, many do not view Chelsea as title contenders, as Maresca’s squad has fallen five points behind early leaders, Arsenal, after just seven matches.

Sheringham, a former England international, stated that Enzo Maresca’s team made a mistake by allowing Jackson to join Bayern on loan.

He asserted that Chelsea ‘immediately regretted’ this decision.

Jackson is set to finalize a £70m permanent transfer to Bayern next summer if he meets certain appearance criteria.

After an injury to Liam Delap, Chelsea sought to bring Jackson back to Stamford Bridge, but the Senegalese player declined the offer.

“I thought Chelsea made a very strange decision in letting Nicolas Jackson go out on loan to Bayern Munich,” Sheringham told Coin Poker.

“Jackson had been with the club for two years; he has experience, and his goalscoring record had been on the rise.

“I was quite surprised to see him leave and to see him treated in such a manner by Enzo Maresca.

“He was a player who understood Maresca’s system well and could have assisted Joao Pedro in integrating into the team.

“Chelsea immediately regretted their choice to let Jackson go because they attempted to recall him, and he declined, which I thought was reasonable.”
