The Imo State government says it is working with security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the kidnapped former House of Assembly member, Ngozi Ogbu.
The state government also warned that politicians should not use the incident to score cheap political points.
A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, disclosed that the state government is doing everything possible to secure Ogbu’s release.
“The Imo State Government assures the public that it is doing everything within its power to secure the safe release of Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, who was abducted a week ago.
“The government condemns in the strongest terms the brazen and lawless act that led to the abduction of Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, a former Chairman of Okigwe Local Government and former member of the Imo State House of Assembly,” the statement said.
The government urged politicians, especially those it accused of fanning the flame of insecurity in the state, to desist from making political capital out of the former lawmaker’s ordeal.
The commissioner asserted that such actions not only trivialize his suffering but could further endanger his life.
“The politicisation of a matter involving the life of a husband, father, and fellow citizen is, to say the least, deeply unconscionable.
“The Imo State Government reiterates its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property and will continue to work tirelessly to keep Imo safe,” the statement added.
