Google has announced a set of advertising-measurement changes spanning first-party data management, enhanced conversions, a new data-strength metric and its open-source Meridian marketing mix modelling tools.

For marketers, the common theme is a measurement stack that combines customer data, attribution signals, incrementality experiments and marketing mix modelling rather than relying on a single reporting method.

Data Manager is moving deeper into Google’s stack

Google says Data Manager is being directly integrated into Google Analytics and Display & Video 360. The goal is to make it easier to connect and activate first-party information across tools rather than maintaining separate pipelines for each destination.

Google is also expanding enhanced conversions into GA and DV360. Enhanced conversions use securely handled first-party customer data to improve conversion matching where conventional identifiers may be incomplete.

The Data Manager API becomes universal

Google describes the Data Manager API as universal and says it is based on the IAB Tech Lab’s Event and Conversions API standard. For organisations managing several advertising destinations, a more standardised pipeline could reduce duplicated integration work.

Built-in diagnostics are intended to identify data-quality problems before they affect campaign measurement. Marketers should still validate schemas, consent handling and business logic rather than assuming a successful connection means the data is correct.

What the Data Strength Uplift Metric measures

Google is introducing a Data Strength Uplift Metric in Google Ads. According to the company, it calculates additional conversions recovered by an advertiser’s first-party data setup.

This should be interpreted as a platform measurement rather than an independent audit of incremental business value. Teams should compare it with their own experiments, backend sales data and other measurement methods.

Meridian gets new capabilities

Meridian is Google’s open-source marketing mix model. Google says new agentic capabilities can help users audit data quality, resolve errors and guide model building. The company has also made backend changes intended to make analyses faster.

Marketers can add relevant brand signals, such as branded Google query volume, to models to examine how upper-funnel activity may contribute to later outcomes.

Meridian GeoX is generally available globally

Google says Meridian GeoX, its open-source library for causal geographic experiments, is now generally available globally. Geo experiments compare selected geographic markets to estimate whether advertising produced incremental outcomes rather than simply receiving attribution for demand that would have occurred anyway.

How marketers can use the updates

Start with data quality rather than adding every new feature. Confirm that first-party events are defined consistently, consent requirements are satisfied and offline or app events reconcile with business systems.

Then use different measurement tools for different questions. Attribution can provide frequent directional feedback; experiments can test causality; marketing mix models can examine broader channel effects over longer periods. Disagreement between methods is a reason to investigate assumptions, not necessarily a reason to discard one method automatically.

Availability matters

Google’s announcement mixes integrations, newly launched capabilities and globally generally available tools. Teams should check their own account and product documentation before assuming every component is immediately visible in every interface or workflow.

The broader takeaway is that first-party data infrastructure is becoming part of the measurement product itself. For marketers, that makes data governance, implementation quality and independent validation as important as the dashboard that reports the final number.
