The National Working Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed that former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, is a legitimate member of the party.

It is important to note that Gbenga Daniel, along with his political associate Kunle Folarin, was reportedly suspended due to alleged anti-party activities.

The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Lekan Adeniran, also released a statement emphasizing that the senator's suspension is still in effect, cautioning that any interactions with him as a party member are not valid.

Adeniran explained that the party, in an official letter to the APC National Chairman dated October 3, 2025, and co-signed by State Chairman Yemi Sanusi and State Secretary Tella Aderibigbe, indicated that Gbenga Daniel was suspended on August 19, 2025, and this decision was formally communicated to him.

In response, APC leaders from the 103 wards across the nine local government areas in Ogun East held a press conference last Tuesday, voicing their support for Gbenga Daniel and asserting that his alleged suspension is both fake and unconstitutional.

They argued that the supposed suspension was unconstitutional and did not follow the required procedures within Daniel's ward, as outlined by the party constitution.

Nonetheless, the National Working Committee of the party, in a letter dated November 17, 2025, and signed by National Secretary Surajudeen Basiru, maintained that Senator Gbenga Daniel's membership status is unchanged.

Basiru stated that the National Working Committee (NWC) has not yet discussed the issue as outlined in Articles 21.3(d & e) of the party constitution, and urged the Ogun State chapter to permit them to investigate the allegations and make an informed decision.

Part of the letter states: “I extend greetings from the National Secretariat of our esteemed party and write to inform you that the Party has received numerous inquiries regarding the recent suspension notice of the Distinguished Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Sen. Otunba Olugbenga Daniel.

“Please be aware that the National Working Committee (NWC) has not yet deliberated on this matter as stipulated in Articles 21.3(d & e) of the party constitution.

“Therefore, you are requested to allow the National Working Committee to investigate the situation and reach an informed conclusion regarding the suspension before issuing any further public statements on this matter. Until then, Sen. Otunba Olugbenga Daniel remains a legitimate member of the party,” Basiru added.
