Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State said on Monday that the attempt to prevent his re-election in 2023 has passed, viewing it as just one of many plots aimed at derailing his progress in life.

Speaking at the public presentation of a book about him, titled Fintiri – The Man They Could Not Stop, he stressed that 2023 represented a particularly significant plot, but that he is a man of destiny who has overcome numerous obstacles.

Fintiri – The Man They Could Not Stop narrates how his closest opponent in the 2023 governorship election was, at one point, prematurely declared the winner, only for Fintiri to be later confirmed as the authentic victor after all results were collated and announced.

Fintiri said, “Going back to the title of the book: Fintiri – The Man They Could Not Stop, the story of the attempt to stop me cannot be told in a single book. I am a man of destiny. There were numerous futile shots at stopping me. The 2023 election was just the height of them.”

He emphasised that the 2023 episode was an embarrassing one, not only for the state but for the nation and for democracy globally, lamenting: “In 2023, we saw treachery; we saw assault; we saw the moral compromise of a bankrupt elite masked as patriots.”

He added, however, that the incident was, in a way, beneficial, as it demonstrated the support of the true people of Adamawa and Nigeria.

The book was reviewed by the Catholic bishop, Mathew Kukah, who commended the author, Mr Solomon Kumanga, Fintiri’s Director-General of Media at the time of the 2023 election.
