England vs Latvia preview

England will look to continue their perfect start to World Cup qualification against Latvia at Wembley tonight.

The Thomas Tuchel era started in decent enough fashion with a professional 2-0 victory over Albania last week.

The Three Lions enjoyed 74% possession and fired off 12 shots against their extremely defensive opponents.

It wasn't the easiest watch but nevertheless, England are now unbeaten in 38 home qualifiers for World Cups or Euros since November 2007, with 34 victories.

That record shouldn't be troubled against a Latvia side ranked 140th in FIFA's official rankings – three below the Faroe Islands and four above St Kitts and Nevis.

Tuchel said England “have to do better” after their win over Albania, and suggested that changes could be in the offing.

That could see the likes of Eberechi Eze, Jarrod Bowen, Morgan Rogers and Marc Guehi handed starts with Chelsea captain Reece James also likely to replace Kyle Walker.

As for Latvia, they eked out a 1-0 win against Andorra on Thursday to end a run of three defeats in four – and means that this is technically a top-of-the-table showdown in Group K.

Odds are correct at the time of publication and are subject to change.

Wizardry

Harry Kane should lead the line for the Three Lions tonight, and should really fill his boots against a nation ranked 135 places below England.

Kane netted his 70th England goal in the 2-0 win over Albania at Wembley with four shots and three of those on target.

The 31-year-old continued his fine association with manager Thomas Tuchel too, having bagged 44 goals in 45 games under the German coach at Bayern Munich.
