No10 stated: “The sovereignty of the Falkland Islands is not open for discussion.

“In 2013, the islanders participated in a referendum regarding their future, and an overwhelming majority opted to remain a part of the UK.”

President Milei is scheduled to visit Britain in April or May, marking the first visit by an Argentine President since 1998.

In advance of his trip, the right-wing populist told the Telegraph: “I believe that the solution should be pursued through peaceful and diplomatic means, and I think that the best way to demonstrate Argentina's willingness is to establish a commercially mature relationship.

“There is no chance I would abandon or relinquish territory, but it is evident that individuals will ultimately make their choices.

“If we can create living conditions that ensure a high standard of living for them, they may be more inclined to acknowledge that territory as Argentine.”

Mr. Milei also mentioned that he is in discussions regarding Argentina purchasing weapons that include UK-made components.

No10 emphasized: “There have been no specific discussions about the UK easing its arms export regulations.”
