The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cautioned the public, especially those seeking admission, against falling prey to changes in institutional programs.

Fabian Benjamin, the spokesperson for JAMB, issued this advisory in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

The Board highlighted that this unethical practice aims to provide an advantage to preferred candidates of institutions, thereby manipulating the merit-based admission process that is designed to uphold transparency and fairness.

It also clarified that all admission processes in Nigeria are conducted exclusively through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), which was established to ensure accountability, transparency, and equal opportunities in admissions.

JAMB warned that any program change or admission activity conducted outside of the JAMB CAPS is unauthorized, unethical, and ultimately harmful to the candidates involved.

The examination body for tertiary institutions further advised that any program change eventually implemented on CAPS after a candidate has been influenced or persuaded by an institution through its own portal would be considered voluntary on the candidate's part.

“For institutions to engage in such underhanded tactics clearly indicates an intention to deceive and exploit candidates, and such behavior will not be tolerated by the Board,” it stated.

“As a result, candidates are strongly encouraged to ignore any invitations or requests to change programs that come from institutional portals or unofficial channels.”

“Preliminary investigations have uncovered that a university in the South-West and another in Abuja have participated in this practice. The Board has initiated appropriate regulatory measures to address these unethical behaviors and ensure that the interests of candidates are fully safeguarded.”

“Therefore, candidates are urged to remain vigilant and conduct all admission-related activities exclusively through the JAMB CAPS portal. The Board reaffirms its steadfast commitment to ensuring that all qualified candidates are treated with fairness, equity, and transparency in the 2025 admission process and beyond,” the statement concluded.
