Reactions have continued to trail the claim by the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, that President Bola Tinubu is 90 years old, contrary to his publicly known age of 74.

DAILY POST reports that the former vice president made the claim during an interview with the BBC, insisting that he has evidence and official records to back his assertion about the president’s age.

Atiku also alleged that Tinubu is sick and unfit to govern Nigeria, while describing himself as healthy, strong and capable of leading the country.

“We have a president who is 90 years old now and who is sick, and I am healthy; I am strong, so why would I not make my services available to my fellow countrymen?” Atiku said.

However, the BBC interviewer challenged the claim, pointing out that Tinubu is not 90 years old.

Responding, Atiku maintained that he has “evidence and records” to substantiate his claim, adding that he would present them in court.

Atiku’s remarks have since sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians on social media, with users taking to X to express divergent views.

Here are some of the reactions from X, as compiled by DAILY POST:

@AfolabiBB: “Calling President Tinubu ‘90 years old’ is not a political argument; it is desperation. Was Atiku there when President Tinubu was born to know better than the documented record?

“A presidential candidate should not manufacture figures to score cheap political points. Desperation is a poor substitute for credibility.”

@KHALYD16: “Tinubu is 90yrs old @atiku is ready for the All Progressives Congress, APC.”

@Montero1016: “As he gets closer to 90 years of age, @atiku becomes more desperate and sees no ‘90’ in his dreams.”

@Abdullahayofel: “Atiku is nothing but an unrepentant liar. So according to his claim, Tinubu is 10 years older than him.”

@Onsogbu: “Atiku saying President Tinubu is 90 years old is a very foolish desperate move… He will contest after 2031.”
