A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC Austin Okai has expressed worries over motives behind planned power outages in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT amid council election.

DAILY POST reports that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC on Friday announced that there would be major maintenance across its facility in the nation’s capital on Saturday.

In a notice published on the company’s Facebook page, AEDC announced that the maintenance would be carried out between 9 am to 1pm in some places and 20am to 4pm in other places.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC will on Saturday conduct council elections in the FCT.

Reacting to the planned power cut, Okai in a post on Facebook wondered “why would AEDC cut power from 9 am to 1 pm during the elections?

“Furthermore, why are there reports that telecoms may limit internet access in the FCT during tomorrow’s vote? This is deeply troubling and unfair to the voters of the FCT.”
