Nollywood veteran Kenneth Okonkwo has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the position of Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, vacant due to his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The ADC leader contended that Diri has effectively left his office following his resignation from the PDP.
DAILY POST recalls that this statement was made during a cabinet meeting at the government house in Yenagoa.
In a statement released on Thursday, the lawyer referenced section 177(c) of the 1999 Constitution, which stipulates that every elected official must be affiliated with a political party.
He argued that since Diri is currently not a member of any political party, he has forfeited his position as governor.
“Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has vacated his seat as the Governor of Bayelsa State by resigning from the PDP and not being affiliated with any party,” he stated.
