Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the first Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti, the Most Reverend Michael Olatunji Fagun.

Bishop Fagun passed away on Monday at the age of 90.

The Governor characterized Bishop Fagun’s death as a significant loss for both the government and the people of Ekiti State.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, Governor Oyebanji referred to Bishop Fagun as a legendary figure of faith and a dedicated servant who devoted his life to the service of God and humanity.

He portrayed Bishop Fagun as a person of influence, a courageous preacher who spoke truth to power, and a role model for many.

The Governor recognized the selfless contributions of the late Bishop as a priest and a revered spiritual leader who advocated for peaceful coexistence among followers of various faiths and religions throughout his life.

He highlighted that Bishop Fagun was instrumental in establishing the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti and played a vital role in transforming the Church into a source of light and a catalyst for spiritual renewal and revival among the faithful.

Governor Oyebanji remarked that Bishop Fagun fought valiantly in his faith, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, humility, selfless service, and compassion for the less fortunate, which should be emulated by current leaders.

“On behalf of the Government and the people of Ekiti State, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Catholic Church and the family of the late Bishop Fagun on the loss of this great servant of God. We pray that the Almighty grants his soul eternal peace,” the Governor added.
