Prominent Plateau religious leader, Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, has expressed his anguish over the ongoing violent attacks and killings of his church members in the Barkin Ladi local government area by suspected Fulani militants.
The clergyman stated that he has been compelled to bury his members almost every day.
Rev. Dachomo, who serves as the regional chairman for the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Barkin Ladi, raised the alarm on Wednesday while overseeing a mass burial for 13 individuals who lost their lives in another attack on Tuesday night in Rachas village of Heipang District and Rawuru village in Fan District, both within the council.
He mentioned that had the security agencies heeded his warnings regarding potential attacks, the situation could have been prevented.
According to Dachomo, he had alerted the security agencies after receiving credible information that some Fulani militia were planning to attack Nyerwai village in Barkin Ladi.
He noted that he had shared a video tagging the agencies in hopes of prompting immediate action, but to his dismay, the Army issued a statement accusing him of being a liar who disseminated false and misleading information intended to incite unnecessary alarm and panic.
While urging authorities to take proactive measures whenever such information is reported, Rev. Dachomo lamented the tragic reality of conducting burials for his church members who are continuously targeted by terrorists.
“Look at these young individuals we have gathered to bury today. What crimes did they commit to deserve such a fate? I am exhausted from burying my members every day,” he lamented.
