DARLING, I’ve been in the football world since I was 19. I’ve seen the highs, the lows, and the absolute scandals that would make your mascara run.
I’ve seen many a footballer’s end in a messy or, perhaps even worse, limp along miserably for years behind closed doors. Believe me, I’ve got the T-shirt – and it’s probably a vintage Chanel.

So, when I saw those pictures of from the weekend, knocking back drinks and chatting away with two mystery women before the Brit Awards – not to mention just days before – my heart just went out to Coleen. Again.
It’s that familiar, sharp pang you get when you see a woman who has given everything, being put in a position where the whole world is
Let’s be honest… the pictures don’t look good. They never do. But I know how this world actually works, because I’ve lived it.
Look, girls target footballers. It’s a fact of life. And Wayne Rooney? He is one of the most well-known stars that has ever walked the planet.
These girls aren’t mystery women by accident, they know exactly who he is. They recognise him immediately, and they target him with the precision of a heat-seeking missile.
They probably even knew he’d be at that pre-Brits bash before he’d even finished his first drink.
They’re like bees around a honeypot when it comes to players of his stature.
They find out where they’re staying, they wait around at the bar, they’ll do whatever it takes to get into that inner circle.
Back in my day, us wives would have to look out for each other.
You literally needed eyes at the back of your head because there were always girls lurking in the shadows, waiting for a moment of weakness or a drunken lapse in judgment.
Wayne knows the score. He’s been down this road so many times, he should have a sat-nav for it by now.
He knows what it’s like to be Wayne Rooney, but he constantly forgets what it feels like to be Coleen.
He forgets she’s the one who has to deal with the fallout, the headlines, and the “I told you so” from the public. It’s thoughtless, and yes, it’s idiotic.
To survive as a WAG, you have to have skin thicker than a Hermes handbag. I’m serious. Not everyone can cope with the pressure, the cameras, and the constant threat of some girl looking for her fifteen minutes of fame.
But Coleen? She copes with it brilliantly.
Her husband is perhaps the most famous footballer in the world, and she has been his absolute rock.
Being a single mum is tough. It’s lonely, it’s exhausting, and I wouldn’t wish it on Coleen

She’s an amazing mother and a supportive wife, and quite frankly, she’s very intelligent and bright. I don’t think she is given enough credit for that.
She famously wanted to get to the bottom of things in the past, and she did.
She isn’t a victim, she’s a powerhouse. But even a powerhouse gets tired.
This is just innocent chatting, perhaps, but it’s the lack of respect for the brand of their marriage that stings.
Wayne is only human, but at 40, he should have his wits about him. He should know that when he’s in a room, every phone is a camera and every girl is a potential headline.
Now, I’ve been there. I learned of a dalliance in my own marriage and I ended it because I couldn’t live without the trust.

Sadly, when that trust is broken, it is very difficult – nearly impossible – to try and trust again.
But I’ll let you in on a little secret, looking back now, and when you’ve got young children, you realise that trying to keep a family together is worth more than a bit of pride.
Being a single mum is tough. It’s lonely, it’s exhausting, and I wouldn’t wish it on Coleen.
I don’t think this latest spree should end her marriage. You shouldn’t let some silly girls who target high-profile footballers in a nightclub come in the way of a decades-long relationship.
As the ‘original WAG,’ I’ve seen this movie before, and frankly, I’m tired of the reruns

If Coleen left every time Wayne was pictured near a pretty brunette, she’d have left years ago.
To walk away, I think she would need cold, hard proof of adultery – not just a blurry photo of him.
However, Wayne needs to take responsibility. He has to do some serious growing up.
He’s got a young family, and he has to value it more than a late-night session at a glitzy awards bash.

She doesn’t need to lay down the law, sit him down and remind him that he is also a father, and a role model, too.
They need to look at what causes these problems. Perhaps the drinking just doesn’t agree with him? It seems to be the common denominator in all these wrong place, wrong time scenarios.
I do believe there is true love between them – she’s certainly not hanging around for the money – and he adores her, but he’s got to stop letting her down.
Wayne, darling, if you’re reading this… put the glass down, look at your beautiful wife, and remember that the honeypot always leaves a sticky mess.

My heart goes out to Coleen, because while Wayne is busy playing the fool at a pre-Brit Awards bash, she’s the one left carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders.
