Burnley Scrambles to Replace Hundreds of Jerseys After Last-Minute Sponsor Contract Cancellation Before Season Kickoff

BURNLEY have been forced to replace hundreds of shirts after ripping up their contract with the sponsor.

The season begins in just hours with Wolves hosting Blackburn tonight.

However, the club has been thrown into chaos due to its contract with front-of-shirt sponsor Finotive being terminated.

As a result, the branding of the “global trading ecosystem” has been removed from the club’s matchday shirts and training gear.

A statement read: “Burnley Football Club is disappointed to confirm that its agreement with Finotive has been terminated.

“We have acted decisively to protect the club’s interests, and those of our supporters, while ensuring preparations for the new season continue uninterrupted, both on and off the pitch.

“Further information relating to existing replica shirts and the resulting supporter arrangements will be communicated through our official channels imminently.”

The change to the shirts will come as a blow to the club after successful .

Burnley have made a quick decision to replace Finotive as their front-of-shirt sponsor.

Car retailer Vertu has been announced as the sponsor for the 2026/27 season.

The brand has previously worked with Burnley and will have its imagery on the men’s, women’s and academy first-team shirts.

Burnley chairman Alan Pace said: “We are delighted to welcome Vertu as Burnley Football Club’s new official front-of-shirt principal partner.

“Vertu has been a valued and trusted partner of the club, and this new relationship is a natural next step for two organisations that share a commitment to ambition, innovation and long-term success.

“From our very first conversations, it was clear there was a shared vision for what this new partnership could achieve.

“We look forward to working even more closely together and creating exciting new opportunities for our supporters throughout the season.”

Burnley should have Vertu on their shirts for the match against the Hammers on Sunday.

Fans who have already bought shirts with the now outdated sponsor will be able to claim a refund or exchange for a replacement.

They will also have the option to have the Vertu branding applied to their current shirt for free.

The existing replica stock has been taken off sale while it is updated.

A statement read: “All replica shirt stock produced and sold by the club going forward will feature Vertu branding.

“Full details of this process, including timings and how supporters can access the refund, exchange or branding application arrangements, will be communicated through the club’s official channels in due course.

“As a result of the change, replica kits will not be available online or in the Clarets Store until further notice, including in the Clarets Store on Sunday for the fixture against West Ham.”

West Ham have previously had a similar issue with front-of-shirt sponsors.

The club lost XL Airways after the airline’s collapse but had to be more creative to cover up the sponsor on the shirt.

There appeared to be no sponsorless shirts available so the team played in versions with covers over the sponsor.

This included squad numbers as well as the logo for the Bobby Moore Fund until a permanent replacement was found.

Both the Clarets and Hammers have already started their competitive seasons with the first round of the last weekend.
