Two-thirds of Brits consider this confectionery their favorite sweet, yet despite being a festive tradition for generations, many are unaware that every Jelly Baby has its own distinct name.

Richard Price, a British grocery expert at BritSuperstore.co.uk, explains: “While every Brit certainly has a favorite flavor or often color, few British consumers or expats realize they actually have names.”

“During their rebranding in 1953, Bassetts assigned each color a unique shape and name.”

The names of the Bassett’s Jelly Babies are as follows:

  • Brilliant – Red
  • Bubbles – Yellow
  • Baby Bonny – Pink
  • Boofuls – Green
  • Big Heart – Purple
  • Bumper – Orange

However, Jelly Babies aren’t the only sweets that confuse Brits with their names.

In 2022, one man discovered that he had been misnaming Blue Riband bars for YEARS, and he wasn’t alone.

Joe Lewis took to his TikTok account to share his revelation, explaining that he only noticed the bar’s correct name on a large box of biscuits he received from Amazon.

“So please tell me I’m not the only person who has noticed this?” he started.

“I’ve just received this big box of biscuits – 71 of them.

“Toffee Crisps, Yorkies, Kit Kats… and Blue Ribands. Blue Riband?

“I am 100% convinced that it has always been Blue Ribbon!”

Commenters were quick to share their thoughts on the video, with many admitting they too believed the bars were called Blue Ribbon.

“It has definitely always been Blue Ribbon,” one person wrote.

“Blue Ribbon 100%,” another added.

A third commented: “BLUE RIBBON.

“It has always been, I’m 44, and there have ALWAYS been BLUE RIBBON.”

“It’s definitely always been ribbon,” someone else remarked.
