On Tuesday, Downing Street issued a “declaration of intent” following high-stakes discussions with the “Coalition of the Willing” – Ukraine’s primary supporters in Europe.
Number 10 stated: “This is a Declaration of Intent to deploy forces to Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement.”
“This is a crucial component of our unwavering commitment to support Ukraine in the long term.”
They mentioned that the “Multinational Force for Ukraine” would serve as a “reassurance” to enhance security guarantees.
“In addition to our plans for a coordination cell, post-ceasefire, the UK and France will also set up ‘military hubs’ throughout Ukraine to facilitate the deployment and establish secure facilities for weapons and military equipment to assist Ukraine’s defensive requirements,” the declaration stated.
Trump’s Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff, praised the “significant progress” made during the talks, emphasizing that “durable security guarantees” are vital for achieving a peace agreement.
He remarked: “We have made considerable progress on several key workstreams, including our bilateral security guarantee framework and a prosperity plan.”
