Before starting the project , Ashton felt a bit anxious that her daughter might be upset about the removal of the official Barbie houses.
“Will my daughter be angry with me for getting rid of her houses?” she wondered.
“I decided to decorate my daughter’s bedroom for her birthday, and she has had these Barbie houses that were gifted to her for quite some time now.
“They’re lovely and fun, but they occupy so much space. I wanted to create something that is a bit more visually appealing.
“So, off I went to IKEA to purchase a Kallax unit to craft her a Barbie house!”
However, not everyone in the comments section was convinced that Ashton’s daughter would appreciate her mother’s plan.
“She’ll be very upset!” one commenter wrote.
Another added: “Your daughter probably doesn’t want a visually appealing dollhouse; she is likely happy with the one she has.
“As parents, we often forget that kids love bright colors and what we consider junk.”
In response, Ashton clarified: “I didn’t mean aesthetically pleasing for me. I meant for her room.
“So it doesn’t take up the entire space in her room, allowing room for other toys as well.
“Trust me, the new house will be filled with lots of colors and various rooms.”
“I hope she likes it,” she added.
“I plan to keep the old ones in storage for a while just in case she doesn’t!”
The video continued with Ashton visiting The Range to collect some wallpaper samples, before stopping by B&Q to acquire a piece of MDF for the back wall of the house.
Once back home, she began transforming each square of the unit into a different room – including a kitchen, garage, and even a swimming pool room that could double as a disco space.
Five Smart Parent Hacks to Save Money
Any parent knows how expensive it can be to feed kids, especially when they prefer branded, premium products. However, there are several hacks that can help you save money, as mum-of-two and Fabulous Digital Senior Reporter Sarah Bull explained:
Batch Cooking
This is a hack that many parents, including myself, swear by. One of my favorite things to do is batch cook a tomato sauce, hiding a variety of vegetables inside, such as carrots, peppers, and onions. Once it’s cooled, I pour it into an ice cube tray to freeze. Then, I can easily use the portions for anything from pasta sauce to pizza base.
