YOUR gym bag can make all the difference.

As well as keeping sweaty trainers and kit separate, it needs to have somewhere safe for your laptop, water bottle and everything else you end up carrying.

But that can often mean a hefty price tag.

I’ve put three to the test to see which is the most practical, comfortable, best-looking and worth the cost . . .

IF you like a bag where everything has its place, the Bloxx Small Backpack is a very clever bit of kit.

It’s 28 litres, so it’s compact for everyday use but still big enough for clothes, shoes, , a towel and a laptop.

It has a separate waterproof lower compartment for shoes or wet kit, an upper section for clean clothes, a padded pocket for valuables and two large stowaway bottle pockets.

It’s also made from waterproof coated fabric with a waterproof internal lining. It’s really comfortable, too.

THE Built For Athletes Small Black & Pink Gym Backpack holds 25 litres and what is really great about it is that it has a clever 180-degree opening that means you can lay the bag flat and see what’s inside rather than rummaging around.

It has been designed around , but it’s versatile enough for work and travel too.

There’s a padded laptop compartment that fits laptops up to 15 inches, two side bottle holders that can take a 1-litre bottle or protein shaker. It is made from durable, weather-resistant materials and is load-tested up to 20kg.

I like the removable sternum and waist straps, which give you extra support when the bag is properly loaded and the black and pink is fun.

THIS is the stylish one – and my favouite.

The Kapten & Son Helsinki comes in two sizes and many colours from black and sandstone to a lovely muted rose colour.

The smaller one has a 17-litre capacity and the larger one has a 23-litre capacity. Both have plenty of storage space with a streamlined, minimalist appearance that looks great.

It is water-resistant and has a large padded laptop compartment, several internal pockets, water-bottle pockets and a fold-out back design.

But I love it because there is also a space in the middle where you can just bung your kit if you want to without having to put things in fiddly compartments. Great for when you’re rushing about.
