Lisa Hill and her husband Simon, both 52, initially thought a cat was the cause of the disturbance. They rescued him from the A614 at Farnsfield, Nottinghamshire, and then visited local farms to see if the little pig belonged to anyone.
Lisa mentioned that the couple decided to end their search and drove 15 miles to the Brinsley Rescue Centre, as the month-old piglet was becoming critically ill.
Charity worker Lisa stated: “He was so small and adorable. We had to help, and we knew he would face death if he returned to his farm.”
Centre owner Jon Beresford noted: “He was lifeless when they arrived and clearly had issues with his eyes.”
“We placed him in an incubator, provided hourly fluids, and administered antibiotics. He perked up and began taking milk.”
Benny, who will stay at the centre until he is adopted, required surgery to remove his eyes, as one had an ulcer and the other a perforated cornea.
Veterinarian Jonathan Hadley commented: “He’s made a remarkable recovery, and once he finds his forever home, he’ll enjoy a normal and happy life.”
