Army foil ISWAP attack in Damasak, Borno state

Troops stationed in Damasak town in Borno state have successfully repelled a late-night assault by ISWAP fighters.

This was revealed by counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama through a post on his official X handle on Friday.

Security source revealed to him the attempted attack occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Thursday night.

“The attackers reportedly in large numbers and heavily armed, were met with fierce resistance from the troops on ground.

“According to initial field reports, the soldiers engaged the terrorists in a prolonged firefight, effectively thwarting the attack and forcing the insurgents to retreat with casualties,”; Makama revealed.

As at the time of filing this report, the military is yet to release an official casualty figure.
