The cost of baby formula brands, including Aptamil, has soared in the past two years.Credit: Refer to sourceAPTAMIL and Cow & Gate have become the latest firms to recall baby formula over fears it could contain a “toxin” that’s poisoning babies.
The Food Standards Agency said they have found possible presence of a toxin linked to the poisoning of children.

The recall was issued over potential cereulide contamination, which can cause severe vomiting and diarrhoea.
It only affects the batches listed in the recall notice, as well as the product included in Danone’s earlier recall.
The Food Standards Agency said in a statement: “Cereulide is a toxin produced by some strains of Bacillus cereus.
“Cereulide is highly heat stable meaning it is unlikely to be deactivated or destroyed by cooking, or when making the infant milk according to NHS guidelines.
“If consumed it can lead to rapid onset of symptoms.”
are advised to check batch codes carefully and avoid feeding affected products to their children.
It comes after dozens of children suffered symptoms consistent with toxin poisoning linked to a different baby formula – Nestle’s SMA Infant Formula and Follow-On Formula – that was pulled from shops on Thursday.
Last month, recalled over 60 , while producer Danone also recalled one batch of Aptamil.
The UKHSA is investigating 36 cases of infants falling ill from the toxin cereulide, which can cause illness including vomiting and stomach cramps.
UKHSA has revealed cases of children falling ill across the UK, with 24 reported in , seven in , three in , one in the , and one from the Crown Dependencies.
These cases have been confirmed to relate to children who had consumed implicated batches of baby formula, developing symptoms consistent with cereulide toxin poisoning.
