The All Progressives Congress (APC) is now controlling 29 of Nigeria’s 36 states, according to a regional breakdown of current party dominance across the federation.
In the South-South, the APC now holds sway in all six states, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Cross River, Rivers and Bayelsa giving the ruling party a clean sweep in the oil-rich region.
The party has also consolidated its grip on the North-Central, where Benue, Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa, Kogi and Plateau are all under APC control, making it another 6–0 showing for the party.
In the South-East, the APC controls Enugu, Ebonyi and Imo states, while Abia remains under the Labour Party (LP) and Anambra is governed by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), bringing the APC’s tally in the region to three out of five states.
Across the South-West, the APC maintains dominance in Lagos, Ekiti, Ogun and Ondo states.
Oyo is currently governed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while Osun is under the Accord Party, giving the APC four of the six states in the zone.
In the North-East, the APC controls Borno, Yobe, Taraba and Gombe states.
Adamawa and Bauchi remain under the PDP, leaving the ruling party with four of the six states in the region.
The North-West remains a stronghold for the APC, with Katsina, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna and Kano under its control.
Zamfara is the only exception, currently governed by the PDP, giving the APC six of the seven states in the zone.
Overall, the regional figures suggest that the APC currently controls 29 out of Nigeria’s 36 states.
