AT least three people have been killed and two others injured after a packed tourist boat capsized off the coast of Oman.

Police confirmed the vessel was carrying 25 tourists of French nationality, along with a tour guide and the boat’s captain, when the incident occurred.

Emergency teams from the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority were dispatched immediately to the scene near Muttrah, Muscat Governorate.

Three tourists were pronounced dead, while two others suffered minor injuries and were treated on site by ambulance crews.

All other passengers were rescued.

Authorities said an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the capsize.

Factors such as weather conditions and possible overloading are among the issues being looked into.

Officials have not released further details as the probe continues.

Efforts are also currently underway to provide support to the survivors and the victims’ families.

It comes after a after being struck by large waves in November.

The vessel, carrying 92 tourists and five crew members, reportedly suffered a fractured hull that caused it to rapidly take on water.

All those on board were rescued after Thai maritime authorities scrambled emergency teams to the scene.

Rough seas are common in Thailand during November and December at the height of the monsoon season, though operators are frequently criticised for continuing trips in dangerous conditions.
