The All Progressives Congress Rivers State Assembly Screening Committee has screened 98 aspirants seeking the party’s ticket for the State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The screening exercise was conducted on Saturday and Sunday in Port Harcourt.
Speaking with journalists after the exercise, the Secretary of the Rivers State Assembly Screening Committee, Tanko Yamowa, praised the aspirants for their orderly conduct throughout the process.
Yamowa noted that the exercise was peaceful and well-organised, despite initial concerns that there could be challenges during the screening.
According to him, the behaviour displayed by the aspirants reflected unity within the APC in Rivers State.
He said, “The aspirants or the people of Rivers conducted themselves in a very good manner.”
He added, “This is not what we were expecting, but they’ve given us a surprise. We were thinking maybe we would face some challenges, but since yesterday and today, nobody has come here to cause any trouble, and that is to say the APC is one family in Rivers State.”
