The impending departure of , along with the probable sale of Manuel Ugarte frees up space in the squad for at least two new reinforcements in the engine room.
Reports in Italy suggest that one is already signed.
That would be Ederson from Atalanta, but Journalist Fabrizio Romano has shut down such rumours via his YouTube channel .
The Italian transfer guru said: “I wanted to mention among things today something quick on Ederson because many of you are asking me ‘Fabrizio, is it true according to these reports in Italy that Ederson is almost done as a new Manchester United signing?’
“The deal is not at that stage yet. The reality is that Ederson is one of the names on ‘s list from one year ago.
“Manchester United’s recruitment team included Ederson as one of the names on the list for the midfield for 2025 when it was not possible to proceed. Atalanta didn’t want to sell the player.
“His contract is up in 2027, and Ederson is available. Manchester United know that, but my understanding is that they are talking to his agent.
“I told you some time ago that conversations are active between Manchester United and the agents, and are aware of the price from Atalanta – €45 million.”

Romano then proceeded to continue, suggesting that the Brazilian wouldn’t be the only midfielder through the Old Trafford door this summer.
confirmed that United are keeping tabs on FOUR Premier League midfielders – Nottingham Forest‘s , Brighton’s , Crystal Palace‘s and Bournemouth‘s Alex Scott. Newcastle ace has also been to Manchester, and Romano’s comments reinforced those rumours.
Romano continued: “So there are contacts for Ederson, but he’s not the only one. Manchester United could sign two or three midfielders based on opportunities, exits and more. There are at least five or six midfielders under consideration, and this is an important part of the story before saying it’s already done and agreed.”
With one potentially arriving from Serie A for €45 million, another looks to be heading in the other direction with United set to balance the bucks.

has been on loan at Napoli this season, scoring 14 goals.
His decent form in Italy has helped put Napoli on the brink of qualification, meaning Antonio Conte looks set to make that move permanent in a deal that would suit all parties involved.
Romano reported: “Tomorrow, Man United could get the final green light, the official approval, to receive €44 million – a total package of €50 million for Rasmus Hojlund because if Napoli tomorrow get the official qualification to Champions League – the official obligation for Hojlund will be activated.
“So Manchester United are set to receive €44 million on top of the €6 million they already received one year ago from Napoli for the loan deal.”
