The reelected Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has responded to his victory by reaching out to the other candidates who ran against him in Saturday's election.
The governor also commended President Bola Tinubu as a true democrat for allowing the people's choice to prevail.
He expressed sorrow over the loss of one of his supporters, a councillor, who was tragically shot shortly after casting his vote in the border town of Owerre Ezukala.
While speaking to journalists at his residence in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area, he stated: “This is a moment to congratulate the people of Anambra. Four years ago, we were elected with 112,000 votes, but this time you made your voices heard with 73 percent of the total votes. This is a demonstration of solidarity and a powerful statement.
“Out of 326 wards, we only lost six, and we won in all 21 local governments, which is a significant statement. We are in partnership with the people at all levels in the state, and we are moving toward our fourth year. We are currently in gear three, progressing to gear four. I thank the people of Anambra for renewing our mandate.
“We express our gratitude to Mr. President; he has shown himself to be a commendable democrat. I also thank the new INEC chairman. This was his first outing, and as the saying goes, you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression, and he has demonstrated that with this election. Every election year is improving in Anambra.
“With a few exceptions, I believe the election was very free, fair, and credible. I appreciate the ICT section of INEC; as of last night, they had uploaded up to 99 percent of the results, and we already knew the direction of the election.
“To my fellow contestants, I say, we were 16, and obviously, only one person can win. We have had our fun and our battles, but we will still meet at events on weekends and enjoy drinks the Anambra way. I extend a hand of leadership to you, and together we will strive to make Anambra better. For me, our focus will be on serving the people of Anambra, and no time will be wasted. Ours is a mission with a deadline.”
Soludo mourned the councillor from the Owerre Ezukala community who was shot after voting.
“It is a border town, and we understand that assailants came from the border to shoot him, which was unjust,” Soludo stated.
