The faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by Nafiu Bala Gombe has cautioned Nigerians, party members, and the international community to ignore the so-called ‘new party headquarters’ inaugurated by the faction headed by former Senate President David Mark.

In a statement issued on Monday, Gombe characterized this action as a clear and unlawful attempt to seize control of the party, which he emphasized is founded on principles of democracy, integrity, and the rule of law.

Gombe asserted that the Mark faction lacks any “constitutional, moral, or legal authority” to represent the party or advocate for its interests.

The statement declared, “The legitimate National Working Committee (NWC), duly recognized by the party’s constitution and a majority of its bodies, wishes to assert unequivocally: This faction is illegitimate. The group led by Senator David Mark is a disgruntled splinter group operating outside the established structures of the ADC. Their actions stem from their failure to disrupt the party’s internal democratic processes for personal gain.

“The ‘headquarters’ is unauthorized: The building being showcased as a ‘new national headquarters’ is not the official seat of the African Democratic Congress. It is a private facility belonging to an illegitimate association and has no connection to the authentic ADC.

“An anti-democratic act: This initiative represents a desperate, anti-democratic ploy aimed at sowing confusion and misleading the public. It is a direct attack on the will of the party’s membership and a breach of our constitution.”

Gombe urged Nigerians, party supporters, and key institutions, particularly the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and the media, to acknowledge only the directives emanating from the “authentic ADC National Secretariat”.

“The legitimate leadership of the ADC remains unwavering in its commitment to providing a credible alternative for the Nigerian populace. We will not be dissuaded by the actions of a few individuals intent on undermining our collective progress.

“We are currently exploring all legal and constitutional avenues to restore order and address these actions appropriately. The ADC remains dedicated to its mission of rescuing and rebuilding Nigeria for the benefit of all citizens,” the statement concluded.
