Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, asserts that the defection of some governors to different political parties will not prevent Nigerians from selecting their preferred leaders in the 2027 elections.

He made these remarks on Wednesday during the inauguration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Contact and Mobilization Office in Jos.

El-Rufai noted that while governors from the PDP are switching to the APC, “Nigerians are moving to the ADC.”

He emphasized that the party possesses the capability to unify Plateau State and the entire nation if it secures power in 2027.

He acknowledged that the current situation in the country is challenging but expressed optimism for the future. He encouraged the residents of Plateau to support the ADC.

Sharing a personal anecdote, he remarked: “Forty years ago, I was visiting Plateau every week because my fiancée completed her National Youth Service here in Jos. Even after marriage, we regularly visited Jos on weekends. However, since then, things have taken a turn for the worse in Jos, Plateau.”

He continued: “I hope that with improved leadership at both the state and national levels, we can unite the people of Plateau State across ethnic and religious divides; so that Plateau State can reclaim its reputation as the Home of Peace and Tourism that we once knew. We pray for the strength to achieve this unity.”

El-Rufai stated that Nigerians are weary of both the APC and PDP, asserting that only new leadership can address the country’s challenges.

He said, “I understand that everyone is exhausted by this APC and PDP government across the nation. Many are looking to the APC for solutions to save Nigeria.

While PDP governors are defecting to the APC, Nigerians are choosing to join the ADC. With God’s grace, 230 million Nigerians will overcome the influence of 25 governors.”

He also declared: “Nigerians have resolved that in 2027, they will cast their votes for the ADC. Our focus now is to unite and bring all party members together. We aim to present our excellent candidates and sound policies that will benefit all Nigerians. Each of you present has a role to fulfill. The ADC is the only party that has reserved 40% of leadership positions for youth and 35% for women. It is a party dedicated to young people and women.”

The Plateau State ADC coordinator, Hon. Jamilu Lawandi Datti, highlighted that youths are grappling with unemployment, insecurity, and limited access to education and healthcare.

He urged them to lend their support to the party.
