The African Democratic Congress (ADC) asserts that its primary objective is to liberate Nigeria from what it refers to as the total civilian dictatorship imposed by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The National Chairman of the party, Senator David Mark, made this declaration on Monday during the launch of the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, emphasizing that the ADC is preparing for the 2027 general election.

“Let it be clear to everyone that this coalition of national political opposition groups extends beyond merely seeking political power. It is a unified effort to restore the faltering foundations of Nigeria’s democracy.

“Our mission is straightforward: Rescue Nigeria. Rebuild Nigeria. Return power to the people,” stated Mark.

He claimed that the Federal Government, led by the APC, has taken control of all democratic institutions, alleging that the current administration is engrossed in political maneuvering and has neglected effective governance.

“The overt destabilization and infiltration of all significant opposition political parties aim to achieve a singular goal: to facilitate total state capture and leave Nigerians without alternatives or choices in the 2027 elections.

“This coalition is designed to avert our country’s slide into a one-party state,” he added.

Also involved in this movement are the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, along with his Labour Party counterpart, Peter Obi.

Additional notable figures include former National Assembly member Senator Dino Melaye, former youth minister Solomon Dalong, Dele Momodu, Senator Gabriel Suswam, Senator Ireti Kingibe of the Labour Party (LP), former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Emeka Ihedioha, and retired Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, the former Chief of Air Staff.

DAILY POST reports that this event took place in the nation’s capital.

It is important to note that the opposition coalition officially selected the ADC as its political platform on July 2, 2025, to participate in the presidential and other elections in 2027.

The coalition has stated that it is committed to rescuing the country from collapse and to rebuilding its democracy.
