The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has urged Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, to stop being indecisive and consider joining the All Progressives Congress (APC). He emphasized that the governor would receive the full backing of Abia APC members if he chose to defect.
Kalu made this appeal while addressing APC members and his supporters during a town hall meeting and food distribution event at his residence in Bende, Abia State, on Monday. He stated that the governor should publicly declare his support for the APC if he is genuinely backing President Bola Tinubu.
The Deputy Speaker informed party members that he has not yet announced his intention to run for the 2027 Abia State governorship election, as he is currently in consultation, listening to the national leadership of the APC, and 'waiting for a signal.'
He remarked: “I would like to take this opportunity once more to invite Governor Alex Otti to join our party. If he joins us, we will support him. However, if he remains in another party while supporting the President, that is contradictory!”
Kalu further stated: “If you truly wish to support the President, you must join the APC. The President will not abandon the APC to support a non-APC member.”
He claimed that he faces daily insults from hired social media agents based in Abia State, who misinterpret his initiatives, including empowerment programs, as a bid for the 2027 governorship election.
The Deputy Speaker mentioned that the grassroots structures of the APC he is establishing throughout various regions of Abia State will ensure comprehensive victory for President Bola Tinubu and the party as a whole.
