This is the moment a distracted tourist was knocked off a mountain path by a pack mule.

The incident was captured on video by another hiker, who recorded the split second the mule knocked the man down the steep hill.

In the footage, the man is seen focusing on his phone while navigating a narrow stone path leading to the Caishen Temple on Beigao Peak on December 26.

The mountain-side temple is located in the city of Hangzhou, in the Zhejiang province of China.

As an elderly handler and the mule carrying several bags passed by, one of the side bags inadvertently struck him from behind.

The impact caused the man to lose his balance.

He attempted to brace himself by throwing his arms forward.

Despite his best efforts, the momentum propelled him forward down the mountain, rolling through trees and foliage.

His descent finally halted when he reached a lower section of the trail.

Onlookers rushed to assist him and called for emergency services.

An ambulance subsequently transported him to the hospital for treatment.

Although he sustained injuries from the fall, updates regarding his condition have not been disclosed.

The path leading to the temple on Beigao Peak features many narrow and steep sections where pack animals are frequently used to transport goods.

Local authorities conduct patrols twice daily by police officers, volunteers, and security staff to monitor safety signage and emergency equipment.

The incident has sparked widespread discussion online regarding visitor safety management and the dangers of using phones while walking on hazardous trails.

The man's fall follows a similar incident where a woman narrowly escaped serious injury.

The 31-year-old tourist fell 20 feet at Bushrangers Bay near the Mornington Peninsula, south of Melbourne.

Emergency services quickly arrived to initiate a rescue operation, and she was subsequently airlifted to a Melbourne hospital.

She was later treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.

Paramedic Jo Wilton stated: “She was missing some teeth, which suggests she may have suffered a head injury as well.”

“Upon further examination, it appears she has a hip injury and a wrist injury,” Wilton added.
