A political coalition known as the Kogi Alliance for Renewed Hope (KARH) has criticized recent statements made by Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, who represents Kogi West, regarding his reaction to the pro-Tinubu endorsement rally that took place in Lokoja last week.
In a statement released on Monday and signed by Toba Ogundele and Idris Abubakar, the group's President and Secretary respectively, KARH labeled the senator's comments as “misguided and inconsistent with the political atmosphere in Kogi State.”
The coalition rejected Karimi’s assertion that residents were being “bullied” into endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asserting that the attendance at the rally demonstrated “a voluntary expression of confidence” in the President's administration.
“The citizens of Kogi State are not under any duress to support President Tinubu. Their ongoing loyalty stems from visible enhancements in infrastructure, equitable appointments, and renewed federal focus on the state,” the statement emphasized.
KARH indicated that the rally, which was attended by community leaders and party supporters from all three senatorial districts, represented grassroots unity rather than political coercion.
“It is disheartening for a sitting senator to characterize the enthusiasm of his constituents as coerced. Many of the current road projects and empowerment initiatives in Kogi are direct results of the policies of the current administration,” the coalition added.
The group noted that the residents of the state “recognize and value” the developmental trajectory of the federal government and will not be swayed by political rhetoric in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
“From Lokoja to Okene, and Kabba to Ankpa, the message remains clear: Kogi is aligned with President Tinubu’s vision because they can observe tangible outcomes, not mere promises,” the statement concluded.
KARH further urged political figures in the state to refrain from divisive remarks and instead work together to maintain Kogi’s significance within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Kogi must remain united. Political disagreements should not overshadow the shared goal of progress and development,” the coalition asserted.
