A leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has stated that a division between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi would provide President Bola Tinubu with a significant advantage in the 2027 presidential election.

Momodu recalled that Atiku and Obi finished second and third in the 2023 presidential election.

He cautioned against a recurrence of such a scenario.

In a post on X, Momodu expressed that Atiku has remained steadfast in his quest for the presidency.

He emphasized that with history, organizational structure, and voter enthusiasm all in play, unity among opposition forces could be crucial, while fragmentation might once again alter the electoral landscape.

Momodu remarked: “Buhari lost multiple times and even considered giving up at one point. However, Atiku has always been closer to his goal and has never surrendered. That is commendable.

“He and Obi finished as the second and third candidates in 2023; dividing them again would immediately give Tinubu an edge. Observe the enthusiasm Obi has generated from his supporters to the ADC.

“Atiku will also reinvigorate his own base and present the strong structures he has been meticulously and intentionally building since around 1993 when he stepped aside for Chief Moshood Abiola at the SDP Presidential primary in Jos.”
