The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has responded to comments made by Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State, which suggested that some supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar are now endorsing President Bola Tinubu.

During a New Year banquet on Thursday in Port Harcourt, Fubara stated that Prince Uche Secondus, Rt. Hon. Austin Opara, Alabo Abiye Sekibo, and former Governor Sir Celestine Omehia are now backing him and Tinubu.

In response, Wike pointed out that these individuals were unable to deliver even 10 percent of the votes for Atiku during the 2023 presidential election.

Speaking in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni (ONELGA) Local Government Area of Rivers yesterday, Wike pledged to provide Tinubu with the necessary support to secure victory in the 2027 presidential election.

He stated: “I heard someone (Fubara) say, ‘Oh, those who want Atiku are back.’ They couldn’t give Atiku 10% in 2023, so what is the political advantage?”

“I won’t mention their names, but you all know them. We will do everything possible to ensure that we give Tinubu the complete support he requires.”

Wike also criticized Ohanaeze President-General John Mbata for labeling him as a semi-illiterate.

Wike remarked: “Under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t have bothered, but I feel compelled to respond. Someone who was a former senator referred to the FCT Minister as a semi-illiterate, yet this same person dropped out from Rivers State University while studying law and was unable to graduate.”

“I attended the University of Port Harcourt, completed my studies, returned to the same university where he dropped out, and went to law school. Today, I am a life bencher.”

“The semi-illiterate has received the fourth highest national award in Nigeria.”
