The former Governor of Osun State and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has proclaimed the party as the only credible alternative political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, presenting it as a party committed to conscience and service to Nigerians.

Aregbesola made this statement on Saturday during the official launch of the ADC’s new state secretariat in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

He criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for what he termed poor governance and its inability to meet the expectations of Nigerians.

“Under the current administration, hunger has taken over the land. Governance has been reduced to personal enrichment and political intimidation,” Aregbesola stated. “Nigerians are suffering due to the leadership failure under the APC.”

He emphasized that the escalating economic hardship in the country would lead to increased public support for the ADC, which he characterized as a party grounded in discipline, accountability, and service to the populace.

Also addressing the gathering, former Kwara State Governor Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed remarked that the rise of the ADC signifies the beginning of a new political movement in Kwara. He indicated that the party is committed to establishing a governance model that aligns with the collective aspirations of the people.

“Kwara is set to be different because the ADC is ready to establish a new order that reflects the true will of our citizens,” Ahmed stated. “Our farmers are suffering due to insecurity, and the government must restore confidence so they can safely return to their farms.”

In his comments, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary and former Minister of Youth and Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, asserted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lost its relevance, insisting that the ADC now serves as the only viable opposition party in Kwara and throughout Nigeria.

“Can you believe this party was launched only three months ago? That shows the people have embraced us,” Abdullahi remarked. “The question is no longer whether Kwarans want the APC; they do not. The real question is whether we can persuade them that ADC is the credible alternative, and that’s what we will achieve by 2027.”

He also expressed concern regarding the rising insecurity in the state, particularly in rural areas, underscoring ADC’s commitment to enhancing safety and good governance.
“Our citizens can no longer farm safely, which is why the ADC is developing a party that genuinely represents their interests,” Abdullahi added.
