The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) will not endorse any candidates for the 2027 presidential election, according to the forum’s National Publicity Secretary, Prof. T. A. Muhammad-Baba.
Instead, the forum plans to interview the presidential candidates over the next six months to understand their plans for both the region and the country.
During a statement in Kaduna, he elaborated that the presidential hopefuls would be asked to outline their strategies for addressing the security challenges and poverty prevalent in the northern region.
Muhammad-Baba stated, “Similar to the 2023 presidential elections, the forum will invite all aspirants or candidates to come and explain how each candidate intends to tackle insecurity and poverty, along with other issues affecting the northern region, if elected president in the 2027 elections.”
He also mentioned that the forum would draft a position paper regarding the North and present it to the eventual winner of the 2027 presidential election, outlining how to address the challenges facing the region.
The National Publicity Secretary noted that the candidate from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and the presidential candidate from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, did not engage with the forum in 2023, despite receiving invitations.
However, ACF reported that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was then the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Peter Obi, participated in the forum’s interactive session in 2023.
