The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state of colluding with the Nigerian Police regarding the events that followed the resumption of duties by members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) on Monday.
In a press statement signed by its chairman, Sunday Bisi, on Wednesday, the PDP criticized the APC’s defense of the police.
Bisi also alleged that the APC's stance amounted to a justification of unprofessional conduct during the incident at local government councils in the state.
The PDP claimed that the APC’s position confirmed “a collusion against the people of Osun State,” asserting that the opposition party was trying to maintain an illegal occupation of local government councils by officials who had been previously removed by court rulings.
According to Bisi, the APC had resorted to “outrageous falsehoods” to justify its continued presence in the councils. Such actions posed a threat to democratic governance in the state.
He stated that the claim of a court-ordered reinstatement of APC-backed officials was fabricated.
Bisi challenged the APC to provide evidence for its assertions.
“Contrary to the repeated lies by the APC, no court has ordered the reinstatement of the YES or NO officials.
“If the APC believes otherwise, we challenge them to identify the section of the judgment that explicitly ordered the reinstatement of the court-removed YES or NO officials for everyone to see,” he said.
Referring to a Federal High Court judgment in suit number FHC/OS/CS/103/2022, the Osun PDP chairman noted that the dismissal of the APC elected officials was confirmed by the Court of Appeal on January 13, 2025, in appeal number CA/AK/226M/2024.
He stated that an attempt by the APC to relist the appeal was dismissed on June 13, 2025, and that the appellate court also upheld the February 22, 2025 local government elections conducted by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC).
Describing a separate suit filed by the APC as baseless, Bisi said, “The suit FHC/OS/CS/147/2025 is a complete waste of time because the local government elections of February 22, 2025, were held in compliance with the Electoral Act, 2022, and a valid court order.”
The PDP reiterated its intention to pursue legal avenues to challenge the actions of the APC and its alleged collaborators, including the police.
He assured that the party would continue to “defend the mandate of the Osun people and ensure that those acting unlawfully are held accountable.”
Earlier on Monday, the PDP chairman accused the Nigerian Police of facilitating a breakdown of law and order even as local government workers resumed their duties on Monday.
Bisi called on Nigerians and the international community to hold the Nigerian Police accountable for the unlawful takeover of council secretariats by individuals lacking lawful authority.
DAILY POST previously reported that the Osun APC, in a press conference on Monday, accused the state government of deliberately creating legal crises to undermine elected local government officials.
The party urged the National Judicial Council (NJC) to intervene urgently in the matter.
The Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, stated that the controversy originated from a Court of Appeal judgment on February 10, 2025, which nullified a prior decision that had removed APC elected chairmen and councillors across the state.
Lawal mentioned that the appellate judgment was never appealed by the state government, yet it was allegedly disregarded, adding that the reinstated chairmen and councillors resumed their duties on February 17, 2025, in accordance with the ruling.
Additionally, the Osun State Police Command, through a statement by Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan, warned against a breakdown of law and order in the local government secretariats.
This warning followed the Police's revelation that they had intelligence indicating that certain individuals were planning to incite violence in the local government areas.
NULGE announced on Monday, December 29, 2025, that its members, local government workers, would resume on Monday, January 5, 2026.
The announcement to return to work at the local government secretariats came after local government workers under the NULGE umbrella had embarked on an eleven-month strike starting February 17, 2025.
