Former Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr, has voiced his support for the team as they aim to secure a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoffs.
Eric Chelle’s squad will vie for the sole qualification spot alongside Gabon's Panthers, Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions, and the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Leopards.
Nigeria is scheduled to face Gabon in the first semi-final of the playoffs at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat on Thursday, November 13. Meanwhile, Cameroon will compete against the Democratic Republic of Congo at the El Barid Stadium in Rabat on the same day.
Rohr, who led the Super Eagles for five years before taking the helm of the neighboring Benin Republic, believes Nigeria possesses the talent needed to excel in the mini-tournament.
“The Super Eagles have numerous top-tier players and strikers; we faced them and were unable to prevail,” Rohr stated on Brila FM.
“We achieved a victory against them during the qualifiers, a result we took pride in, but I will be rooting for the Super Eagles in the playoffs.”
