Dele Momodu, a former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that United States President Donald Trump believes that the Nigerian government is not taking the issue of escalating insecurity seriously or is unprepared to tackle it.

Momodu made these comments during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, which was observed by DAILY POST.

The prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) urged the Federal Government to heed Trump’s concerns and take decisive action.

The politician from Edo State expressed his distress over the ongoing violence perpetrated by armed groups and called upon security forces to identify and eliminate the criminal elements responsible for the turmoil.

“From the videos of President Trump that I have seen, this goes beyond mere conversation. I believe he is convinced about the information that has already been presented to him.
“He is convinced that the Nigerian government is not serious, that we are unprepared, and that we are merely stalling, returning to our usual antics,” he remarked.

It is important to note that Trump had, last Saturday, instructed the Pentagon to prepare a potential military plan regarding Nigeria, following his warning that Christianity is “facing an existential threat” in the most populous nation in Africa.

In his statement, Trump indicated that if Nigeria failed to curb the violence, the United States would take action, asserting that “it will be swift, fierce, and precise, just like the attacks by the terrorist thugs on our BELOVED Christians.”

The US President has since reiterated his warning of potential military intervention in Nigeria due to the reported killings of Christians.
