2026 WCQ: Benin reclaim second place from Super Eagles with 4-0 win over Lesotho

Benin Republic are back in second place in Group C of the African zone in the 2026 World Cup qualifying series.

This follows the 4-0 thrashing of Lesotho on Tuesday night.

Steve Mounie, Andreas Hountondji and Hassane Imourane all scored in the first half to give the Squirrels a commanding lead at half time.

Junior Olaitan added a fourth after the break.

The result takes Benin’s tally to 14 points, only three behind leaders South Africa.

Bafana Bafana played out a 1-1 draw with Nigeria earlier in the day.

Only the group winner will be assure of a spot at next year’s tournament, while the best four runners-up will go into a play-off.
